FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team picked up a win in their 2022 opener, downing Framingham State, 2-0, at Maple Street Field.
 
Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) picked up the win saving four shots and keeping a blank sheet for the Hawks. On offense Roger Williams out shot the Rams 18-9, and 9-4 in shots on goal.  The Hawks also finished the contest with both goals coming out with assists.
 
Jen Donohue (Halifax, Mass.) got things going for Roger Williams in the fourth minute, after being on the receiving end of a pass from Raffaella Brunetti (North Providence, R.I.), which Donohue then put into the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
 
After both teams were scoreless the rest of the first half, Sofie Morris (Bristol, R.I.) scored off of an assist from Grace Kelly (Milford, N.H.), taking a 2-0 lead.  The Hawks defense was able to stifle the offense of Framingham State the rest of the way.
 
Roger Williams (1-0) will face their next test on Saturday, Sept. 3 when they travel to take on Babson in a non-conference contest slated for 1 pm.  They will then be off for six days before traveling to New England College for the NEC Classic, where they will play Clarkson on Friday, Sept. 9 and SUNY Potsdam on Saturday, Sept. 10.
