HENNIKER, N.H – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team leveled their season record on Saturday defeating SUNY Potsdam, 2-1, at the New England College Classic.
Roger Williams put eight shots on net, trailing the Bears by three in that category, while tallying one more shot attempt.
Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) played the entire game in net, registering double-digit saves for the third straight contest.
The Hawks struck first coming off of a corner kick taken by
Grace Kelly (Milford, N.H.) that
Sofie Morris (Bristol, R.I.) redirected into the back of the net, using her head for her first goal of the season in the 43
rd minute.
Just 10:38 into the second half of the matchup, Morris' head, that again came off of a Kelly corner kick. Morris redirection again found it's way into the goal, giving Roger Williams a 2-0 lead.
After being awarded a penalty kick, SUNY Potsdam's Sarah Emmi was able to sneak her attempt past Marrelli for the lone Bear goal.
Roger Williams (2-2, 0-0 CCC) will host MIT in their first matchup at Bayside Field on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 4 pm. The Hawks will then travel to Biddeford, Maine for a Saturday, Sept. 17 matchup against Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe University of New England at 12 pm.
