MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to a pair of top 25 nationally ranked teams, falling 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-12) to #21 Wesleyan and 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-13) to #22 Southwestern.
In the first set against Wesleyan, the Cardinals jumped out to a 22-13 lead, before the Hawks score three straight to cut into the lead, Wesleyan closed out the set scoring three of their own, before taking the second set 25-12.
The Cardinals took control early in the third set on their way to closing out the match.;
Roger Williams took the Pirates to within five late in the first set, before Southwestern scored three of the final four points in the set to close for a 1-0 lead. After taking the second set 25-16, Southwestern closed the match with a final frame where they out scored the Hawks 25-13.
Roger Williams (2-4, 0-0 CCC) hosts New England College for their first home game of the regular season on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 6 pm in the Campus Rec Center. They will then host SUNY Potsdam and UMass Dartmouth for a non-conference tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 17.
