Women’s Volleyball: Roger Williams Drops Pair of Matches Saturday

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team fell in both of their matches Saturday Afternoon in the Paulino Campus Rec Center. Dropping their first match of the day against SUNY Potsdam 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 25-16) and UMass Dartmouth 3-1 (25-19, 16-25, 25-16, 25-22).
 
In their first match of the day against the SUNY Potsdam Bears, Roger Williams was led by Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) who had 14 kills and Kristen Dansereau (Killingworth, Conn.) who also broke into double-digits with 10. Ava Mattiucci (North, Kingstown, R.I.) picked up 18 assists, while Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) had 18 digs.
 
Trailing 19-12 in the first set, Roger Williams rattled off five consecutive points to pull within two.  The Hawks pulled within one of the Bears before Potsdam scored three straight to close out the set.
 
The second set was also competitive with the Hawks and Bears playing to a 21-21 tie but again the Bears put together a small run to grab onto the lead.  In the third set the Hawks used five runs of three or more points to grab a 25-23 third set victory.
 
Ultimately, the Bears closed out the Hawks in the fourth set, 25-16.
 
Against UMass Dartmouth, Dansereau and Picchietti again had double-digit kills with, Mattiucci recording 19 assists, while Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) added 15 of her own.  The Hawks had four players finish with double-digit kills.
 
The Hawks fell 25-19 in the opening set before launching out to a 10-6 lead in the second. After the Corsairs added two points to close the gap to four at 20-16, Roger Williams scored five straight points as they took set two.
 
After falling in the third set, the Hawks were unable to hold on in the fourth as UMass Dartmouth scored five straight points, using that as an opportunity to take the lead and close out the match.
 
Roger Williams (3-6, 0-0 CCC) will host Curry on Tuesday, Sept. 20 at 6 pm in the campus Rec Center.  The University of New England will then host the Hawks on Saturday, Sept. 24 with a start time of 6 pm.
