BRISTOL, R.I. — The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team defeated Curry 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-21) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match, Tuesday evening in the Campus Rec Center.
Roger Williams had 35 kills to the Colonels 18, and had 10 service aces against Curry's two.
Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) earned 11 kills, while
Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) picked up 14 assists with three service aces.
Rachel Borzone (Syosset, N.Y.) also added 19 digs defensively.
In the opening set the Hawks jumped out to a 5-0 lead, and grew the lead growing the lead throughout the set as they closed out the first set. The second set, the Hawks again jumped out to an early five point lead, before holding Curry to two points at a time.
In the third set, the Colonels had a 12-9 lead before Roger Williams leveled the score at 12-12. After playing to an 18-18 tie, the Hawks rattled off five straight points to take a 23-18 lead, to take command of the set and close out the match.
Roger Williams (4-6, 1-0 CCC) will a pair of CCC matches, first on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the University of New England, and then follow up with a match on Thursday, Sept. 29 against Endicott.
