WORCESTER, Mass. — The Roger Williams University women's soccer team traveled to WPI on Tuesday evening, coming out of Worcester with a 2-1 victory in non-conference play.
The Hawks were out shot 13-8 in shots on goal, and 30-10 in the contest, however
Bailey Bourque (Litchfield, N.H.) made 12 saves for Roger Williams.
In the first half,
Leah Yucius (Duxbury, Mass.) broke the scoreless tie, scoring in the 32
nd minute after getting past the goalkeeper and the defender, walking the ball in for a goal. WPI leveled the score in the 40
th minute, when a ball was put into a pile and bounced into the net.
In the second half, the Hawks scored off of a free kick taken by
Grace Kelly (Milford, N.H.), that Kelly guided past the Engineer goalkeeper, scoring the second goal, and clinching the win.
Roger Williams (3-4, 0-1 CCC) will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 7 pm against Brandeis, before hosting Gordon in their first home Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 3 pm on Bayside Field.
