WARWICK, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's golf team kicked off their season Wednesday afternoon at the Valley Country Club, defeating Rhode Island College 319-322 in a dual match.
 
On the par 72 course, Ben Defelice (Warwick, R.I.) shot a 76 to lead all competitors in the match, while the Anchormen's Shane Mello followed with a 78.  Rhode Island College's Jasper Bruins Slot and a Hawks golfer both tied at 79.
 
Coming in at fifth was Roger Williams' Johnny Doherty (Braintree, Mass.) who finished with an 80 while the final two Hawk golfers came in at 84 and 85 on the course.
 
Roger Williams will be in action at the CCC Qualifier tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 30 with the first group teeing off at 11:30 am at Green Valley Country Club.
