SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University wrestling team faced Western New England in a dual on Wednesday, coming out with the victory, 25-9, over the Golden Bears in the Alumni Healthful Living Center.
The Hawks got off to a strong start when
Leonard Breit (Johnston, R.I.) earned a major decision victory over Charles Maloy, 19-10. The Golden Bears fought back with 197-pound victory by Darby McLaughlin, by decision.
Addison Boisvert (Scarborough, Maine) then picked up six points to put Roger Williams ahead 10-3, with a win at 285-pounds, pinning his opponent in 5:00.
A 5-3 victory at 125-pounds cut the Hawk lead to four, before the Hawks earned four straight decision victories from 133-pounds through 157-pounds. Sean Monteiro then got three points back by edging out his opponent by decision, 7-6, before
Jayden Curley (Mansfield, Mass.) took an 8-5 decisiion over the Golden Bears Jaylen Hawkins.
Roger Williams moves to 12-2on the 2022-23 campaign, will be back in action on Saturday with dual matchups with Trinity and WPI, both hosted by the Engineers.
