BEVERLY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's basketball team had three players score in double figures, and a strong performance on the glass, as the Hawks defeated Endicott, 63-43, in MacDonald Gymnasium in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.
The Hawks offense was led by
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) who had four rebounds, and three assists, while scoring nine of her 13 total points at the free throw line.
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) scored in double-figures knocking down 50 percent of her shots from the field and freshman
Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) had 10 points while pulling down a team high 13 rebounds.
Nikki Rosa (Nahant, Mass.),
Kendi Barnard (Bedford, N.H.), and
Peri MacDonald (Melrose, Mass.) each had eight points in the win.
Endicott got 11 points from Libby Flemming to lead the team. Flemming also had five assists. Sarah Dempsey and Emily St. Thomas also scored in double-digits with 10 points each.
The Hawks scored 12 points on second chance opportunities, and outscored the Gulls 18-0 off the bench. Roger Williams also had 18 points in the paint.
After Fleming knocked down a basket to get scoring underway, Barnard found Rosa open for a jumper to level the score in the opening three minutes. After a pair of layups from Elie leveled the game again, Roger Williams added four more to take the lead. The Hawks led 14-11 at the end of the opening frame.
In the second quarter the Hawks led by as many as eight, as Coppola knocked down three-pointers to cap off a half that saw the Hawks lead 31-25 at the break.
In the third quarter Roger Williams' defense was key, as they outscored Endicott 18-8. The Hawks then were able to expand the lead by four in the final quarter, as they came out with the victory.
Roger Williams (12-2, 8-0 CCC) are riding an 11-game winning streak into a Monday, Jan. 16 matchup at Trinity against the Bantams. They will then face Wentworth on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 5:30 pm in the Campus Rec Center.
