Women’s Basketball: Bantams Strike Early in Win Over Hawks

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Roger Williams University women's basketball team fell to the Bantams of Trinity, 58-41, on Monday afternoon in Oosting Gymnasium in non-conference action.
 
The Hawks were powered by Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) and Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) who each scored in double-figures in the contest with 10 points apiece Elie also grabbed six boards, while shooting 4-7 from the field.  Coppola knocked down three shots from the field, while also pulling down four rebounds. Kendi Barnard (Bedford, N.H.) had eight points to pair with six rebounds, and a game-high four blocks in the contest.
 
Trinity was powered by Reilly Campbell who shot 8-of-15 from the field while battling to the line, for a game-high eight attempts, converting seven shots from the stripe.  Campbell also pulled down 10 of the Bantams 43 rebounds.
 
After Trinity scored the first four points on the matchup, Elie converted a layup just under three minutes into the game, before the Bantams rattled off another eight straight points to take a commanding 12-2 lead in the opening 4:16 of the game. The Hawks trailed 16-5 entering the second quarter.
 
After being outscored 17-8 in the second frame, the Hawks offense kicked into gear in the third quarter, with the Hawks cutting the once 21-point lead of the Bantams down to 11.  Trinity would then have an offensive eruption of their own, extending their lead back out to 15 before the end of the quarter.
 
The final quarter would see Trinity maintain their lead, before closing out for the win.
 
Roger Williams (12-3, 8-0 CCC) will face off on Wednesday, Jan. 18 against Wentworth in a 5:30 pm Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) tilt.  They will then travel to face off against Curry on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 12 pm before hosting two games in the Campus Rec Center the following week.
