WENHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's basketball team used a 29-point opening quarter, as the Hawks downed Gordon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday afternoon at Kanas Court.
The Hawks scored 24 points off turnovers in the contest, scoring 15 of their opening quarter points off turnovers. Roger Williams also held the advantage in scoring off the bench. The Hawks also had 34 total points in the paint. The Hawks also shot 65 percent from the field to the Fighting Scots 42.9 percent.
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) led Roger Williams in scoring with 18 points, Galligan also had a game high three blocks in the matchup, and led with seven assists.
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) added 12 points in the contest with 12 rebounds as she collected her first double-double of the season. Elie also had five steals and three assists in the contest, while
Lizzy Stevenson (Bedford, Mass.) and
Nikki Rosa (Nahant, Mass.) both scored in double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.
After Ami Rivera scored on the Fighting Scots first possession, Rosa came down the floor to level the score at 2-2, kick starting a nine straight points by the Hawks. The Hawks dominated the opening quarter, outscoring the Fighting Scots 29-13 in the opening quarter.
In the second quarter Roger Williams and Gordon both scored 11 points in the second quarter, to go into the half with the Hawks leading 40-24.
Both squads played to an even second half with Roger Williams and Gordon both scoring 30 as the Hawks earned the victory.
Roger Williams (10-2, 6-0 CCC) will host Western New England on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 5:30 pm in the Campus Rec Center. They will then have four days to prepare for Endicott on Saturday, Jan. 14 in a 1 pm CCC matchup. The Hawks will then play their final non-conference matchup on Monday, Jan. 16 against Trinity in Hartford, Conn.
