DUDLEY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team defeated the Bison of Nichols College on Wednesday afternoon, 2-1, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Nichols Soccer Field.
 
The Hawks and Bison both put 10 shots on target, with the Hawks leading in attempts 20-13. The Hawks also saw one more opportunity coming off a corner kick, leading the category, 3-2.
 
Sarah Newman (Sayville, N.Y.) scored one of the Hawks two goals with both of her shot attempts landing within the framework. Sofie Morris (Arlington, Mass.) accounted for a goal, with Rachel Oster earning an assist in the match. Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) had nine saves on the 10 shots that she faced.
 
In the opening half, Roger Williams took 14 shot attempts in the opening half, but the Bison's Adie Hughes was able to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard. In the 28^th minute, the Bison were the first team to strike when Emily Feisthamel found Alana Snow, who put the ball by Marrelli.
 
Trailing, 1-0, in the 67^th minute the Hawks leveled the score with Oster, finding Newman on the right post for the header into the net. After a foul inside the box, the Hawks earned a penalty kick opportunity to take the lead. The Hawks sent Morris to the dot, and she buried the shot into the left center of the net, taking a lead that Roger Williams would not relinquish.
 
Roger Williams (6-6-3, 2-1-1 CCC) will host Worcester State on Thursday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 pm on Bayside Field.  The Hawks will then host the Nor'easters of the University of New England in the first of four straight CCC contests to round out the regular season.
