BRISTOL R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team secured a 5-2 victory over the Worcester State on Thursday night in a non-conference matchup at Bayside Field.
The Hawks out dueled the Lancers in shots, tallying 19 to their 11, with Roger Williams putting 12 on net, while Worcester State managed only 10 within the frame.
Sophie Scerbin (Westborough, Mass.) scored the first two goals for the Hawks, with
Sofie Morris (Bristol, R.I.) following suit by scoring three of her own.
The Hawks wasted no time, as Scerbin found the back of the net just three minutes into the match. About 20 minutes later,
Grace Kelly (Milford, N.H.) had a free-kick opportunity, leading to a rebound that Scerbin capitalized on, bringing the score to 2-0 for the Hawks. Roger Williams continued their dominance, with Morris scoring again at 41:56 with a beautiful shot to the top left.
The Lancers were the first to score in the second half, with Ava Lemanski scoring after a huge breakaway. Not too soon after, a second opportunity opened up for Lemanski which she had no problem finishing after a collision between the Roger Williams goalie and defender. Morris then scored her second goal of the night with a penalty kick, extending the lead to two for the Hawks. Finally, with 11 seconds left, Morris secured her third goal, sealing the victory for the Hawks.
