BRISTOL, R.I. - In a tightly contested women's soccer match, Roger Williams managed to secure a narrow 1-0 victory over the University of New England (UNE) on a cool Saturday afternoon at the Bayside Field.
The University of New England's record moved to 6-4-3, with a conference record of 3-2-0, while Roger Williams University now sits 8-6-3 overall record, with a conference record of 3-1-1.
UNE out shot Roger Williams, 12-10, with four of their shots on target. Roger Williams, however, were efficient in front of goal, with six of their ten shots finding the target. The UNE's Sydney Gillingham made five saves, while Roger Williams'
Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) made four crucial stops to preserve the clean sheet.
Corner kicks were evenly distributed, with University of New England earning eight and Roger Williams three. Both teams played a physical game, accumulating a total of 18 fouls, nine for each side.
The first half saw both teams engaged in a spirited battle for control of the midfield. The UNE managed to launch five shots, with the Hawks only mustering one attempt. The defensive lines of both teams held strong, with neither side conceding a goal.

Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.) who ultimately broke the deadlock with a goal in the 63rd minute. D'Antonio's strike, her third of the season, proved to be the decisive moment of the match, giving Roger Williams a 1-0 lead that they would not relinquish.
The Nor'easters continued to press, generating seven shots in the second half, but they couldn't find a way past the resolute Roger Williams defense. Roger Williams, on the other hand, managed to increase their shot count to nine in the second half.
