BOSTON – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team fell to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival, Suffolk, 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-18), Wednesday evening.
Suffolk hit .225 in the match, while Roger Williams was held to a .091 hitting percentage. The Hawks fell closely behind in total attacks as well with 99, to Suffolk's 102.
Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) led the team in kills with seven but was closely followed by Peyton Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) who had five of her own. Jackson also led the way in total attacks with 21; Jillian Smith (New Milford, Conn.) coming away with 18 of her own. Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) had a team high, 14 digs.
Suffolk started off strong in the first set, taking an early 5-0 lead. The Hawks quickly came back making it a 11-10 match in favor of Suffolk; Roger Williams kept it close until it was a 19-17 game, the Hawks being down, where Suffolk took over eventually winning the set 25-19
The second set started off close with an early 3-3 tie. However, Suffolk took control, scoring 16 of the next 18 points, taking the set, 25-13.
The third set, much like the second, started off very close with a score of 12-11 lead in favor of the Hawks. The Rams then rattled off five straight points to take the lead for good.
Roger Williams (7-11, 1-3 CCC) will host Wentworth for a Saturday, Oct. 21 match at 1:00 pm. The Hawks will then travel to Curry on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 6:00 pm, before their next home game against UNE.
