MILTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team defeated Curry (25-11, 25-10, 25-23) in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match in Katz Gymnasium on Thursday.
The Hawks earned 40 kills in the match with a .292 hitting percentage in the match. The Hawks also led in aces with 13 in the match and 33 assists. The Hawks also led in defensive categories with a pair of blocks and 40 digs.
Jillian Smith (New Milford, Conn.) and Brianna Piccietti (Batavia, Ill.) led in kills with 13 and 10 digs respectively, with Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) earning 19 assists in the match. Peyton Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) was in on both blocks and Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) added 12 and 11 digs each.
In the opening set the Hawks led, 5-2, before an eight-point run put the Hawks up 11. Curry scored four straight but the Roger Williams squad rattled off another five to take control.
In the second set the Hawks went up 11-1 to start the set, before eventually going up 22-8 in the set. The Hawks would close the second set with a 15-point victory.
With the Colonels holding an 19-16 advantage, the Hawks rattled off four straight to take the lead, 20-19. Roger Williams responded with three points of their own before Curry leveled the score at 23-23. The Hawks then tallied two quick points to close out the match.
Roger Williams (8-13, 2-5 CCC) will host the University of New England on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1:00 pm. The Hawks will then host Eastern Nazarene on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 6:00 pm. They will then close out their regular season at Hartford on Saturday, Nov. 4.
