NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's tennis team downed in-state foe Salve Regina on Wednesday, 8-1, in non-conference action at the Antone Academic Center.
In doubles play,
Matt Glassman (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Alex Smith (Bedford, N.H.) took a speedy, 8-1, victory at the No. 3 doubles spot, while
Cooper Brown (Plano, Texas) and
Konnor Collins (Broken Arrow, Okla.) were close behind with an 8-2 win at No. 2.
Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) and
Will Hurlbut (Marion, Mass.) earned an 8-5 win at the No. 1 spot to complete the sweep.
In singles play, the Seahawks took the No. 1 match, 6-1, 6-4, but the Hawks took three matches handily, with
Johnny Baldyga (Simsbury, Conn.),
Ben Trovato (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Smith earning victories. In No. 2 singles Carroll battled to a 7-6 win in the second set, while Collins also added a win at No. 4 singles.
Roger Williams (1-2, 0-0 CCC) will be off until the spring semester.
