Box Score WALPOLE, Mass. – The Roger Williams University men's tennis team opened their spring semester competition with an 8-1 victory at the Wimbledon 109 tennis courts against Emerson.
In doubles action,
Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) and
Will Hurlbut (Marion, Mass.) took the top doubles spot 8-1. The Lions earned an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, before
Konnor Collins (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and
Cooper Brown (Plano, Texas.) earned an 8-4 win at the No. 3 spot, holding a 2-1 lead after doubles play.
In singles play, Carroll took the first match winning in a straight set.
Johnny Baldyga (Simsbury, Conn.) then took a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles putting Roger Williams up 4-1 in the match.
Camden Poitras earned the Hawks clinching point with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles.
Collins and Hurlbut earned victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles respectively before Brown closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles to wrap up the match.
Roger Williams (2-2, 0-0 CCC) will be back in action on Sunday, Mar. 10 in Orlando, Fla. when they take on St. Norbert in the opening match of Spring Break beginning four straight days of contests.
