Women's Volleyball: Hawks Fall in Home Finale to Eastern Nazarene

BRISTOL, RI – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team fell to Eastern Nazarene, 3-1, (25-14, 14-25, 15-25, 16-25) on Wednesday in the Campus Rec Center. 
 
Eastern Nazarene led the Hawks in Kills with 43 to Roger William's 35, however the Hawks did lead in blocks with nine compared to Eastern Nazarene's five. Eastern Nazarene also managed to obtain four more aces than Roger Williams with 10.

Taylor Joyner (Ashburn, Va.) led the Hawks in kills with 11 and was closely followed by Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) who had eight. Jackson also had the most digs with  13 and was followed by Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) who came up with 10. Mattiucci also had a team-high of 24 assists. Both Mattiucci and Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) recorded a pair of aces.  

The Hawks started off strong with a 3-0 lead in the first set however, Eastern Nazarene quickly came back tying the match 3-3. Roger Williams took the lead, scoring four in a row, making it 7-3. The Hawks maintained a steady lead until a score of 8-13 where Roger Williams started taking over obtaining a score of 19-9 and eventually won the set 25-14. 

In the second set, Eastern Nazarene took an early 8-1 lead but the Hawks did not stop fighting, bringing the score back within three with a score of 10-7. The set remained close until the score of 14-10 where Eastern Nazarene pulled away and would go on to win the set 25-14  

After clinching the second set, Eastern Nazarene had all the momentum and surged to a commanding 20-9 lead in the third set, which proved to be too much for the Hawks to overcome. Securing the set 25-15, Eastern Nazarene carried their momentum into the fourth set, once again claiming victory with a score of 25-15. 

Roger Williams (9-14, 3-5 CCC) will travel to West Hartford for their final match of the regular season against Hartford on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Chase Arena at 2:00 pm.
