Men’s Tennis: Hawks Open Spring with Win Over Emerson

WALPOLE, Mass. – The Roger Williams University men's tennis team began play for the Spring semester on Saturday, traveling to face Emerson at the Wimbledon 109 Tennis Club, defeating the Lions, 8-1.

In doubles play, the Hawks swept the Lions 3-0, earning two key wins with the No. 1 doubles pairing of Jon Trevathan (Berlin, Conn.) and Konnor Collins (Brocken Arrow, Okla.) defeating Ryu Watanabe and Pete Sevikul at the top doubles spot, 8-2.  Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) and Alex Smith (Bedford, N.H.) also took the No. 2 spot, 8-2.

In singles play the Lions would pick up a point with Sevikul defeating collins 7-5, 6-3 in a hard-fought No. 2 doubles, before Trevethan, Johnny Baldyga (Simsbury, Conn.), and Ryan Schuck (Glastonbury, Conn.) took their matches at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles respectively.

Roger Williams (2-1, 0-0 CCC) will be off until Monday, Mar. 13 when they kick off their Spring Break Trip in Florida against Colby Sawyer.
