CLINTON, N.Y. – The Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team was defeated on Monday by #22 Hamilton at Steuben Field.
Brooke McErlain (Hampton, N.H.) tallied five points with three goals and two assists on the season.
Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.) had a goal and two assists, along with three ground balls and a pair of draw controls, while
Julia Kelley (Foxborough, Mass.) scored twice in the matchup.
Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) had 11 draw controls, and
Abby Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) had three caused turnovers with a trio of ground balls, with
Kimmy Creegan (Ramsey, N.J.) forcing two turnovers.
After Aine Cleary, scored the opening two goals of the game for Hamilton, McErlain found her shot in the back of the net, cutting the lead in half. Alana King and Emma Toes scored back-to-back goals going up, 4-1. A goal by Cavanaugh was able to cut the Continentals lead down to two.
After Hamilton scored two more goals at the beginning of the second quarter, Roger Williams responded with a goal by
Campbell Haller (Nashua, N.H.) when she was the end of a receiving end from
Ella Waryas (Foxborough, Mass.). The Continentals then scored two goals in the final five minutes to end the half.
Hamilton outscored the Hawks 4-2 in the third to take a 12-5 lead into the final frame, befor the Hawks played to a fourth quarter draw with the Continentals, 4-4, finally falling to Hamilton by seven.
Roger Williams (3-2, 0-0 CCC) will take on Tufts on Thursday, Mar. 16 at 4 pm before playing Trinity on Sunday, Mar. 19 at 11 am in Hartford, Conn.
