BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team defeated Babson, 16-9, on Tuesday afternoon at MacDowell Field.
Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.) led the way with three goals and three assists for six total points, to go with her defensive effort of four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) also had six points with five goals and one assist, picking up four draw controls.
Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) had four goals and nine draw controls in the matchup, while
Brooke McErlain (Hampton, N.H.) had a pair of draw controls and six ground balls.
In cage,
Zoey Cormican (Rochester, N.H.) stopped nine shots allowing nine goals for a .500 save percentage.
After Cavanaugh scored the first goal of the game in the first 51 seconds, the Beavers rattled off three goals to take a 3-1 lead to close out the first quarter. A goal by
Julia Kelley (Foxborough, Mass.) cut the lead down to one, before Erin Jayne scored for Babson. The Hawks scored twice over a 2:55 span, with Babson separating another pair of Hawk goals with one of their own, before Claudia Dodge scored her second of the game in the final minute before halftime, with the score tied at 6-6.
Coming out of the break Kelley and
Lily Cunningham each scored a goal, before the Beavers scored one to break up the run. The Hawks then went on a run of scoring six straight goals taking full control, 14-7. The Hawks and Beavers would trade goals to end the contest.
Roger Williams (9-6, 5-1 CCC) face Wentworth on Saturday, Apr. 22 at 4 pm before closing out their regular season slate with a Wednesday, Apr. 26 contest on Bayside Field against Salve Regina.
