BRISTOL, R.I. – The No. 2 seeded Roger Williams University men's tennis team is set to host No. 3 Gordon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament Semifinal on Wednesday, Apr. 26 at 4 pm on the RWU Tennis Courts.
The Hawks and Scots both reached the CCC Semifinal match with a 5-0 wins Saturday afternoon. The Hawks handled No. 7 Suffolk, while Gordon took care of business against No. 6 Salve Regina.
The Hawks three doubles pairings each picked up a win with
Jon Trevethan (Berlin, Conn.) now standing at 12-2 on the year while partnered with
Konnor Collins (Broken Arrow, Okla.). The Hawks No. 2 doubles team of
Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) and
Alex Smith (Bedford, N.H.) moved to 12-1 with
Ryan Schuck (Glastonbury, Conn.) and
Matt Glassman (West Hartford, Conn.) combining for their fifth win of the season.
Carroll took a win at No. 2 singles putting his season record to 10-3, Glassman also improved his record to 12-2 on the year with his win. Trevethan is 11-4 at the No. 1 singles spot, with Collins posting a 9-5 record on the year. Rounding out singles play is
Johnny Baldyga (Simsbury, Conn.) who went 10-4 during the regular season and Schuck who went 12-3.
On Gordon's side the No. 1 doubles pairing of Ezekiel Hall and Joshua Noel hold an 11-5 record with their No. 2 doubles pairing of Jeffrey Bodner and Carleton Riester have gone 11-3 on the season. The Scots No. 3 doubles pairing of James Wellborn and Lucas Barnes have posted an 5-3 record on the year.
In singles action, Barnes and Bodner both improved on their singles record Saturday aswell moving to 8-4 and 14-5 respectively. Hall is 12-2 on the season, with Noel holding a 9-8 record on the season. Riester has a 13-4 record on the season playing primarily at No. 4 singles. Wellborn then held a 9-7 record playing at No. 6 singles.
The Hawks and Fighting Scots played to a 5-4 decision on Mar. 30 with Roger Williams edging out Gordon. The Hawks hold a 23-9 record all-time with their last loss coming on Apr. 5, 2017. The Hawks also hold a 14-3 record at the RWU Tennis Courts.
Roger Williams (15-2, 7-1 CCC) will face Gordon (12-7, 6-2 CCC) in the CCC Semifinals on Wednesday, Apr. 26 at 4 pm.
