BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team took and early 10 goal lead against No. 7 Nichols in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament Quarterfinals on Saturday, defeating the Bison, 24-2, on Bayside Field.
Ella Waryas (Foxboro, Mass.) tallied six points in the contest off a goal and five assists, with five draw controls and a pair of ground balls. Julia Kelley (Foxborough, Mass.) dished out four assists and scored once, while Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) scored four goals.
The Hawks jumped out early with Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.) scoring an early goal for the Hawks off a pass from Mia Pantano (Reading, Mass.). The Hawks rattled off seven goals to start the contest, before Hadley Houghton put one in for the Bison. The Hawks then closed out the first quarter scoring five of a 14 goal run.
Trailing 21-1 with 2:00 remaining in the third quarter, the Bison scored with Mackenzie Doran putting in the goal. The Hawks scored three more goals to round out the contest, with Mikayla Fey (Easton, Pa.) scoring her first collegiate goal.
Roger Williams (12-6, 7-1 CCC) will host a CCC Semifinal on Wednesday, May 3 at a time TBA, against the winner of No. 3 Western New England and No. 6 Curry.
