BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team will take part in their ninth straight CCC Tournament Championship Game on Saturday, with the Hawks defeating No. 3 Western New England, 20-5, Wednesday afternoon on Bayside Field.
Zoey Cormican (Rochester, N.H.) made 10 saves in cage, while allowing five for a .666 save percentage in the win. Six Hawks registered multiple points in the contest.
Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Conn.) scored seven points with five goals and two assists, while
Julia Kelley (Foxborough, Mass.) had six points on a pair of goals and four assists.
Brooke McErlain (Hampton, N.H.) and
Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.) both had five points in the contest.
The Hawks struck early as Beck scored off of a feed from
Lily Cunningham that put Roger Williams up 1-0. The Golden Bears then took a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals scored over a 1:20 span. The Hawks scored two goas to round out the quarter with
Ella Waryas (Foxborough, Mass.) connecting with
Mia Pantano (Reading, Mass.), before a free position goal from
Lily Cunningham.
The Hawks then used a offensive onslaught in the second quarter, scoring eight goals from five different players to take an 11-2 lead into the halftime break.
Western New England added two goals early in the third quarter before
Karli Chapin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) converted on a player up opportunity to give the Hawks a 12-4 lead. Beck and
Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) each rounded out scoring in the frame.
The Golden Bears would score early in the fourth quarter before the Hawks added six more to close out the contest.
Roger Williams (13-6, 7-1 CCC) will battle No. 1 Endicott for the CCC Tournament Title and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Saturday, May 6 in Beverly.
