Women’s Lacrosse: Roger Williams Completes Three-peat, Win CCC Tournament Title

BEVERLY, Mass. The Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team won their third straight Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament title on Saturday, with the Hawks defeating top seeded Endicott, 12-9, at Hempstead Stadium.
 
Lily Cunningham (Melrose, Mass.), Karli Chapin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), and Ryleigh Cavanaugh (Manchester, N.H.) each recorded four points in the win, with Mia Pantano (Reading, Mass.) and Mandy Beck (Old Saybrook, Mass.) each scoring a goal and an assist.  Brooke McErlain also had a goal in the matchup.
 
Defensively, Lily Cunningham had six caused turnovers with three ground balls with McErlain and Chapin each having three ground ball pickups. Beck and McErlain Each had two caused turnovers in the matchup, while Cavanaugh and Cunningham each had six draw controls. Zoey Cormican (Rochester, N.H.) had nine saves in the win, while allowing nine goals.
 
The Hawks scored the first goal of the game when Lily Cunningham found the back of the net 1:09 into the contest.  The Hawks stuck again when Chapin found Cavanaugh in motion, for the goal. The Gulls pulled within one with 9:31 remaining in the first when Kiana Napolitano scored a goal.  The Hawks then closed out the first quarter with three goals, two of which were scored by Chapin, taking a 5-1 lead into the second quarter.
 
Beck added another goal for the Hawks with 9:14 remaining in the half, before another Endicott goal put the Gulls down 6-2. Cavanuagh scored a goal before Endicott went on a five-goal run that ended the half and continued into the 11:06 mark of the third quarter.
 
The Hawks then responded to the Gulls' run with Roger Williams rattling off three goals to take a 10-7 lead. After Endicott's Katy Garvin scored with an extra player, before Chapin closed out the third with a goal with five seconds remaining.
 
After a Cavanaugh goal scored 2:11 into the final frame, the Gulls were able to add one goal before the end of the contest, but were unable to overcome the deficit.
 
Roger Williams (14-6, 7-1 CCC) will await their first matchup of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament when the announcement comes on Monday, May 8 at 10:30 am during the selection show.
