Women’s Soccer: Brunetti and Robbins Both Strike Twice in Season Opening Win

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team started the 2023 season off on the right foot, coming out of their matchup against non-conference foe Framingham State with a 4-0 victory, Friday afternoon on Bayside Field.
 
The Hawks out shot the Rams, 16-1, putting six shots on target.  The Hawks' goalkeepers did not need to make a save in the contest as, Roger Williams held Framingham State without a shot on net. The Hawks also had all five of the corner kick attempts in the game.
 
Individually, Raffaella Brunetti (North Providence, R.I.) had a pair of goals on three shots in her 68 minutes of action, while Bianca Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) tallied two goals. Rachel Oster (Scituate, R.I.) and Morgan Ippolito (Point Pleasant, N.J.) each had an assist.
 
At the 10:06 mark of the contest, Robbins was on the receiving end of a through ball from Morris, that she collected sidestepped the Rams keeper and put into the left side of the net.  Shortly after, Brunetti collected a loose ball, charging toward the net, before the Framingham State goalkeeper made contact drawing a whistle, and a penalty kick for the Hawks.
 
On her penalty kick attempt the Brunetti, put the ball to the left of the goalkeeper, giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead. A few minutes later Brunetti struck again, crossing a ball into traffic, where it bounced back to her feet, firing a shot into the bottom left corner of the net, giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead in the 18th minute of action.
 
In the second half Robbins struck for a second time after a few touch passes by Oster and Ippolito, found the ball at the feet of Robbins who fired a shot by the goalkeeper, scoring the final goal of the game.
 
Roger Williams (1-0, 0-0 CCC) will host former Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foe Salve Regina for a 12 pm matchup on Saturday, Sept. 2 on Bayside Field before traveling to Wheaton on Wednesday, Sept. 6 for their first road tilt of the season at Mirrione Stadium.
