BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team, played host to in-state rival Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon on Bayside Field, playing the Seahawks to a 1-1 draw.
As a team Roger Williams out shot the Seahawks 11-5, with three shots on net to Salve Regina's four. Salve Regina had one more corner kick attempt than the Hawks with all four coming in the second half.
Mya D'Antonio (Marshfield, Mass.) scored the first goal of her collegiate career, in the contest with
Rachel Oster (Scituate, R.I.) picking up an assist. In net, goalkeeper
Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) made three saves in the matchup.
After a scoreless first half, the Hawks were the first on the scoreboard when Oster connected on a thru ball to D'Antonio inside the box. D'Antonio then fired a shot off her left foot past the Seahawks keeper, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 69
th minute of play.
The Hawks' lead would stand until the 88
th minutes, when Salve Regina's Lana Diluro, collected a ball to the right of Marrelli off a deflection, which she then lob shot over the head of the keeper to the far post, scoring her first collegiate goal.
Roger Williams (1-0-1, 0-0-0 CCC) will face Wheaton on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 5:00 pm at Mirrione Stadium in Norton, Mass. The Hawks will then host the Judges of Brandeis on Friday, Sept. 8 at 4:00 pm on Bayside Field, before facing their third New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe of the year in MIT on Wednesday, Sept. 14.
