Women’s Soccer: MIT Gets Win in Weather Shortened Match

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team fell on Wednesday afternoon to MIT in a match shortened by the incoming inclement weather, 1-0, on Roberts Field.
 
MIT out shot the Hawks 15-5, putting seven shots on net.  They held Roger Williams without a corner kick in the match. Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) had six saves in the contest on the seven shots she faced over the 73:37 of action. Bianca Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) and Raffaella Brunetti (North Providence, R.I.) both were responsible for the shots on target for the Hawks.
 
MIT's goal came from Meagan Rowlett who had five shots with two on target, tied for the team high in shots on goal with Ashley English.
 
Roger Williams and MIT played to a scoreless draw in the opening frame. Before the Engineers broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 59th minute of action, by Rowlett who tallied her second goal of the season, after stealing the ball from the Hawks defense.
 
The Engineers then held on for the 1-0 victory as the game was called due to inclement weather in the Cambridge area, after meeting the required 70-minute threshold for a NCAA contest.
 
Roger Williams (1-3-1, 0-0-0 CCC) will host the University of Hartford on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 3:00 pm, before traveling to Fitchburg State on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Stay tuned to rwuhawks.com for schedule updates.
