BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's tennis team fell to Clark on Sunday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts in non-conference action, 5-4.
In doubles play, the Cougars took the first point of the match in No. 1 doubles, with Alex Smith (Bedford, N.H.) and Matt Glassman (West Hartford, Conn.) earning the first point of the season for the Hawks with an 8-2 victory in their No. 3 doubles match. The Hawks' duo of Johnny Baldyga (Simsbury, Conn.) and Konnor Collins (Broken Arrow, Okla.) fell in a hard-fought battle at the No. 2 doubles position.
The Cougars led, 2-1, before wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles gave Clark an 4-1 advantage. Wins by Carroll and Smith at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3, and No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-4, respectively. Roger Williams trailed 4-3, before Ben Trovato (Bridgewater, Mass.) earned a 1-6, 6-4, 10-3 victory, leveling the match.
At the No. 4 singles spot, Collins dropped the opening set in a tiebreaker, before falling in the second set 6-3.
Roger Williams (0-1, 0-0 CCC) will travel to Salve Regina on Monday, Sept. 25 at 3 pm before rounding out their fall season on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 3:00 pm.
