Women’s Soccer: Fitchburg State Scores Tying Goal Late, Hawks and Falcons Draw

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team was the first team to score Tuesday afternoon at Elliot Field, but the Falcons of Fitchburg State rebounded, leveling the score in the 84th minute, drawing with the Hawks, 1-1.

The Hawks took 30 shots in the contest, placing 15 on target to Fitchburg State's nine shots, with five landing within the frame. The Falcons' goalkeepers combined for a total of 13 saves in the contest, with Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) making four saves in the match. Julia Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) led the team with four shots on goal in the match, while Sarah Baptista (Smithfield, R.I.) was the goal scorer. Roger Williams also held the edge in corner kicks, 10-1.

The Hawks played to a scoreless draw in the first half with the Falcons, putting eight shots on target with Fitchburg State making saves on the eight attempts within the frame.

Roger Williams got things started in the second half, when Baptista settled the ball at her feet before firing a shot off of a pass from Raffaela Brunetti (North Providence, R.I.). Baptista then put the ball past the Falcon goalkeeper, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute.

In the 84th minute, Fitchburg State was able to score as Ashley Porter found Kendra Peretzman in front of the net, Peretzman then left the ball for Adrianna Westcott who put the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

Roger Williams (1-4-2, 0-0-0 CCC) will host WPI on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 7:00 pm on Bayside Field.  The Hawks will then face CCC foe Curry on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 2:00 pm before facing UMass Boston on Monday, Sept. 25.
