BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team fell to Brandeis, 3-0 (29-27, 25-23, 25-22), Friday evening in the Paolino Recreation Center, in a non-conference match.
Brandeis hit .315 in the match, while Roger Williams was held to a .183 hitting percentage. The Hawks led in service aces, 7-6, and blocks, 5-2.
Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) had 24 assists in the match, with a pair of service aces and four digs.
Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) had a team high 15 kills in the match, with
Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) and
Peyton Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) each had three blocks.
Roger Williams took an 11-6 lead in the first set, before Brandeis rattled off five straight points to level the match. The Hawks again took a three-point lead at 16-13, before Brandeis tallied four of the next five points to even the score at 17-17. Both teams were level at 27-27 before the Judges scored the final two points to take the set.
The Hawks again held a lead at 11-7, but Brandeis again went on a run, overtaking the Hawks, 14-11. Trailing by three Roger Williams scored four straight point to take a one point advantage at 20-19, but the Judges again responded with four point of their own to secure the lead in the set.
Both teams again battled to a 20-20 tie in the third, but Brandeis scored four straight, before holding the Hawks to back-to-back points, before closing out the set.
Roger Williams (3-9, 0-1 CCC) will face New England College on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 2:00 pm, before traveling to Dudley, Mass. for a Wednesday, Oct. 4 match at Nichols in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action. The Hawks will then host Endicott on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6:00 pm.
