HENNIKER, N.H. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team defeated New England College on Saturday at Bridges Gymnasium, 3-0 (25-15, 29-27, 18-25, 25-12), in four sets.
The Hawks accounted for 63 total points, with 10 service aces. The Hawks had 28 assists in the matchup with 62 digs.
Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) and
Brianna Piccietti (Batavia, Ill.) led the team with 13 kills each, as
Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) was responsible for 22 of the Hawks assists.
Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) had 17 digs in the match, with
Peyton Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) being in on four blocks for the Hawks.
After tying the Hawks at 5-5, the Hawks took Pilgrims took the lead 7-5, before Roger Williams responded with six of the next seven points, taking the lead, 11-8. The Hawks then jumped out to a 22-14 lead before closing out the set holding NEC to 15 points in the set.
In the second set, the Hawks and Pilgrims played to a tightly contested 27-27 set, before the Hawks scored two straight, capping off the set with a win. The Hawks trailed 19-18 in the third set, but NEC broke off six straight point to cut the Hawks match lead down to one.
In the fourth set, the Hawks held an 7-6 lead, before rattling off nine straight points, taking a commanding lead as they took control for the 13-point lead.
Roger Williams (4-9, 0-1 CCC) will return to play on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 pm at Nichols for Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play. The Hawks will then host Endicott for a CCC match on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6:00 pm before taking on Coast Guard Saturday, Oct. 7.
