Women’s Volleyball: Hawks Drop Contest to Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-13) to defending New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Champion Tufts, Tuesday evening at Cousens Gymnasium.
 
Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) led the team with 10 kills, while Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) had 23 assists with a service ace. Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) and Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) both had 11 digs in the matchup, with Jackson having seven.
 
After jumping out to an 8-2 lead, the Jumbos closed out the first set with a 25-13 win.  In the second set, Roger Williams trailed 7-4, but rallied to pull within one point in the set.  The Hawks trailed by two, 22-20 before a kill by Jackson pulled the Hawks within one. Down 23-22 in the second set, the Jumbos scored back-to-back points to close out the frame.
 
In the final frame, the Hawks trailed by 10, with the Jumbos holding on to a 25-13 win in the third and final set.
 
Roger Williams (2-2, 0-0 CCC) will take part in the Wheaton College Tournament on Friday, Sept. 8 beginning at 6:00 pm against UMass Dartmouth.  The Hawks will then host Eastern Connecticut State for a home match on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 6:00 pm in the Campus Rec Center.
