BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's soccer team fell to Brandeis, 2-1, on Friday afternoon at Bayside Field on the campus of Roger Williams University in a non-conference women's soccer contest.
The Judges led 11-5 in shots, with five of their shots on net to the Hawks one. Brandeis also had six corner kicks to Roger Williams' two.
Sophomore goalkeeper,
Coco Marrelli (Fairfield, Conn.) made three saves in the contest on the shots she faced.
Bianca Robbins (Johnston, R.I.) picked up an assist on the lone goal scored by
Raffaella Brunetti (North Providence, R.I.).
At the 5:18 mark of the first half, Brandeis struck first with Tanvi Raju putting the ball in the back of the net off a pass from Lacey Mbugua, with the Judges leading the Hawks 1-0 heading into the second half.
Around 20 minutes into the second half, the ball ricochet on a shot from the top of the box, and found the feet of Yasla Ngoma, who finished on her attempt.
After a long pass from the back line, the Hawks gathered control in the midfield with
Eryn Parlin, Parlin then sent the ball to Brunetti who, then put a through ball into the box for
Bianca Robbins. Robbins then passed the ball through for Brunetti who finished with her right foot.
The Hawks put together a string of opportunities in the final five minutes of play but the Judges were able to hold on for the victory.
Roger Williams (1-1-2, 0-0-0 CCC) will travel to MIT on Wednesday, Sept. 13 for a 4:00 pm matchup with the Engineers. The Hawks will then host the first battle against the Hawks of the University of Hartford on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 3:00 pm.
