PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Roger Williams University wrestling team went 2-0 at Johnson & Wales on Saturday, defeating WPI, 38-10, and Trinity, 30-24, at the Wildcat Center.
Against Trinity, dropped their match at 125-pounds, with the
Ben Dubois falling in sudden victory. The Bantams edged out another victory at 133-pounds with a 5-4 decision, before earning back-to-back pinfall victories at 141, and 149-pounds.
Ben Bariso earned the first Roger Williams points of the day, wit a pin at 147-pounds, over Alexander Hurly.
Anthony Ostrander continued to earn points, via pin, with a win at 165 pounds. The Hawks saw
Jayden Curley,
Cole Shaughnessy, and
Spencer Fetrow each earning pins, scoring all 30 points for the Hawks via pin. In the 285-pound weight class, the Bantams earned a pinfall victory but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
In the Hawks' dual against WPI, the Engineers earned a major decision victory at 125-pounds, before earning six points at 133-pounds.
Matt Castillo then earned five points with a technical fall win at 141-pounds, with
Eddie Troyano winning via pinfall at 149 pounds, giving Roger Williams an early 19-4 lead.
Following with another pair of pins by Bariso and
Matt Lucas, the Hawks dropped two matches via decision, before
Spencer Fetrow took a pinfall win in 1:42 over Ryan Addeche.
Hunter Rasmussen wrapped up the day with a 8-2 win by decision in the 285-pound match.
Roger Williams (4-2 Dual) will wrestle on Sunday, Jan. 21 for the New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Duals hosted by Johnson & Wales. The Hawks will then host Western New England, Plymouth State, and Bridgewater State for Senior Day on Saturday, Jan. 27 in the Field House.
