BOSTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's basketball team came out victorious Thursday evening, downing Wentworth, 49-20, to remain unbeaten in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) inside Tansey Gymnasium.
Meg Qualey (Woburn, Mass.) had a game-high 12 points in the win, going 5-11 from the floor with eight rebounds, four blocks and a steal.
Caroline Elie (Rockland, Mass.) had 10 points in the contest shooting 55.5 percent from the field, with six boards to go with three assists, and a steal.
Katie Galligan (Pembroke, Mass.) scored seven points in the contest, while
Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) had six points.
Elizabeth Dufrane (Falls Church, Va.) had five points in the matchup coming off the bench.
For Wentworth, Gabby Amoddio had 10 points with eight rebounds, two assists and a steal in the tilt, with Reagan Madonia scoring three points alongside Gianna Gioia who knocked down a three.
Roger Williams jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the first quarter, holding the Leopards scoreless for the opening 9:38 of the frame, before a free throw by Amoddio put Wentworth on the scoreboard.
Wentworth opened the second quarter with a bucket by Madonia, but Elie responded with a layup as the Hawks regained their lead. Roger Williams outscored the Leopards 20-5 in the second frame, taking a commanding 31-6 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, Roger Williams led in scoring 18-14, holding the Leopards to 17.4 percent shooting in the half, with nine turnovers. Wentworth's defense was able to force 12 turnovers in the second half.
Roger Williams (8-4, 5-0 CCC) will take on Gordon on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 12 pm in the Campus Rec Center as they round out their three-game week. The Hawks will then battle Hartford on Tuesday, Jan. 9 in the first meeting of the two programs.
