BEVERLY, Mass. – The Conference of New England (CNE) office announced the weekly award winners for the week ending on Oct. 13, naming Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) as the league's Player of the Week and Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) as the conference's Rookie of the Week.
 
Ferraro went unbeaten in singles action, collecting a 6-2, 6-0 win over Serena Wilson of Curry, before defeating Western New England's Catie Seklecki, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 singles spot.
 
Abarca also completed a 2-0 week at the No. 3 singles spot, with wins at Curry over Grace Coopee, 6-1, 6-0 and against Western New England, 6-0, 6-0 over Sydney Shepard.
 
The duo also combined for a perfect week in doubles action, playing at the top doubles spot. At Curry the two downed Serena Wilson and Sam Ferrara 6-0, before accomplishing the same feat the following day against Malina Dinis and Sydney Shepard of the Golden Bears.
 
No. 4 Roger Williams (11-3, 4-2 CNE) will host No. 5 Curry on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 4:00 pm on the RWU Tennis Courts in the First Round of the CNE Tournament. The winner will advance to Thursday's CNE Tournament Semifinals at No. 1 Nichols.
