BRISTOL, R.I – The Roger Williams volleyball team defeated Gordon College 3-1 (25-17, 25-11, 20-25, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon, improving their Conference of New England (CNE) record to 3-2.
Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) paced the Hawks in the kill department, recording 16, followed by
Taylor Joyner's (Ashburn, Va.) 12, and
Peyton Felix's (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) 7. Picchietti's 16 kills are tied for her second most in a single game this season. Senior
Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) contributed 34 assists for Roger Williams, good for her third highest mark of the season, and totaling her at 508 on the season.
Emma Bosco (North Andover, Mass.) led the way with four aces, while
Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) had 22 digs, both good for game-highs.
For the Fighting Scots, Anna Murphy led the team with nine kills, while Annika Schmitt and Amanada Pierce paced the assist and ace department with 17 and three, respectively. Joey Keltner contributed 10 digs for Gordon as well.
The first match began back and forth, until the Hawks closed the frame on a 10-1 stretch that gave them the first win, 25-17. In the second frame, Roger Williams dominated from start to finish, finishing 25-11 giving them a 2-0 edge over the Fighting Scots. Gordon bounced back in the third frame edging out the Hawks 25-20, to send the match into a fourth frame. The Hawks would flip the score into their favor, finishing off Gordon College 25-20, securing the win 3-1. The win moves them to 12-10 overall, and 3-2 in conference play.
The ladies will stay close to home as they travel to Providence, R.I to take on Rhode Island College on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 7:30 PM.
