Field Hockey: Hawks To Play in First-Ever NCAA Tournament Match at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team will travel to #12 Messiah, for the program's first-ever NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament match on Wednesday.
 
Roger Williams enters the contest with a 16-6 record on the season, while the Falcons come in with a 14-5 record on the year, being ranked #12 in the latest NFHCA NCAA Division III poll. The Falcons are making their 37th NCAA Tournament appearance, while posting a 58-35 record in the NCAA Tournament. Messiah holds a 45-8 record at home in tournament play, while RWU makes their tournament debut.
 
MAC Commonwealth Co-Coach of the Year Brooke Good is in her 13th year leading the Flacons, 12th playing season. Good has compiled a 210-44 (.827) record leading Messiah, while Jill Reeve is in her third season leading the charge for the Hawks, compileing a 40-20 (.667) record over three seasons.
 
Roger Williams' offense is led by Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.), who has scored 21 goals and added 13 assists this season, for 55 points. Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) adds 15 goals on the season with seven helpers, with Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) chipping in nine goals and four assists. The Hawks offense has generated 20 shots per game over the season, while opponents have had 10.6 per contest. Senior defender, Abigail Stevens (Brewster, Mass.) has six defensive saves and has helped anchor a defensive unit that ranked second in the CNE in scoring margin at 2.41. Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, Md.) has been the primary goaltender for the Hawks this season with 18 goals allowed over 19 matches this season, posting a 14-5 record, with five shutouts.
 
Messiah brings an attack and stingy defense, anchored by the goaltending tandem of Eva Hancock and Joy Lippert who have averaged 1.45 and 0.60 goals against respectively. The two have combined for a total of three shut outs on the season. The offensive end has been led by Hailey Womer who has scored 22 points, with 10 goals and a pair of assists and Leah Bryner with 20 points off 10 goals. Rebekah Wiley and Casey Tyrrell have recorded the only defensive saves for the Falcons.
 
The two teams will face off Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 4:00 pm with the winner advancing to the NCAA Tournament Second Round, on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Williams.
