Women's Basketball: Hawks Grab First Win at Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger William's women's basketball team grabbed their first win of the season on the road at Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon.
 
After suffering their second loss to begin the season just 20 hours earlier, the Hawks bounced back with a win over Salve Regina, 68-62. The Hawks trialed by 10 at the half and responded by coming out and outscoring the Seahawks 26-13 in the third quarter, giving them a three-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. They were able to outlast Salve in the fourth, with a final score of 68-62.
 
The difference maker was the free throw line, which saw the Hawks shoot 20-26 compared to Salve's 11-16. Salve Regina also turned it over 21 times to Roger Williams 18. Despite the loss the Seahawks outrebounded Roger Williams 41 to 30 in the matchup.
 
Individually, sophomore Chloe Richardson (Norwell, Mass.)  tied for a game-high 17 points for the Hawks. Ava Azzaro (Northampton, Mass.) and Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) chipped in 13 and 10 respectively. Lilli Clark (Willimantic, Conn.), Abrielle Racine (Mooers Forks, N.Y.) and Meg Qualey (Woburn, Mass.) each tallied four rebounds for the Hawks.
 
For Salve Regina, Amanda Folan tallied a team high 17 points, added in five steals. Sofia Neary had 14 points of her own to go along with a game-high 17 rebounds. Briana Neary and Ashley Rourke added 13 each for the Seahawks.
 
With the win, Roger Williams moves to 1-2, all in non-conference matchups. They will next take the court on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Tufts.
