Women's Basketball: Hawks Fall to Corsairs No. 14 Corsairs in Non-Conference Action

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams women's basketball team fell to Umass Dartmouth on Tuesday evening, 77-73. The loss brings the Hawks record to 2-3 on the season, with the win keeping UMass Dartmouth undefeated at 5-0, currently ranking #14 by D3hoops.com and #19 by the WBCA in Division III.
 
Roger Williams battled with the Corsairs, trailing by just one point heading into halftime, 34-33. The Corsairs responded in the third quarter, outscoring the Hawks 23-13, bringing the deficit to 11 heading into the 4th for the squad. They quickly responded opening the final frame with a 10-2 run, narrowing the lead to just three. Senior Elizabeth Dufrane scored five straight points with two minutes remaining to tie the game up at 68-68, before UMD went on to knock down back to back threes, putting the game out of reach with just 45 seconds left. The Hawks went on to fall 77-73.
 
The turnover margin was the biggest difference, with the Hawks turning it over 21 times to UMD's 13. The Corsairs also out rebounded the Hawks 50-46.
 
Individually, Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) and Dufrane led the way, scoring 24 and 22 points respectively in the loss. Chloe Richardson (Norwall, Mass.) chipped in 14. Dufrane added seven assists, eight rebounds and four blocks to go along with her 22 points. Lilli Clark led the Hawks on the glass, tallying 12 rebounds. For the Corsairs, Teja Andrews did the heavy lifting, totaling 24 points, nine rebounds, five assists and eight total blocks and  steals in the winning effort.
 
Roger Williams (2-3) will begin Conference of New England play in their next matchup against Wentworth on Dec. 4.
