Women’s Volleyball: Hawks Win Sixth Straight, Down Bison in Regular Season Home Finale

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team defeated Conference of New England (CNE) foe Nichols on Wednesday evening in the Campus Rec Center, for a 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-14) victory.
 
The Hawks had 37 kills with the Bison tallying 31 in the match, while also out-dueling the Bison in service aces, 15-4. The Hawks had a pair of blocks and led in digs, 41-36. As a team, RWU hit .395 throughout the match.
 
Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) had 12 kills, while Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) followed with eight in the match. Picchietti led the team in hitting percentage, with attackers with more than 10 attempts, hitting .545 as a team. Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) hit .667 to lead the team with four kills off six attempts, while also dishing out 28 assists with seven digs. Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) and Peyton Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) hit .500 and .455 respectively. Defensively Emma Bosco  (North Andover, Mass.) had nine digs leading the team, with Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) also earning seven digs.
 
Luna Colozzo led the Bison with 12 kills in the match, while Ruby St. Onge dished out 16 assists.
 
With the two teams tied 4-4 in the opening set, the Hawks scored six of the next seven points, taking a 10-5 lead.  After a kill by Maille Ianniruberto, the Hawks rattled off seven straight points taking a commanding 17-6 lead.
 
After closing out the first, RWU continued their momentum into the second set, taking a 15-10 lead. The Bison crawled back within one before the Hawks closed out the set with a 9-1 run to clinch a 2-0 match lead.
 
In the third, the two teams played to a 15-11 RWU lead, before a five point run, sparked the Hawks to the sweep. 
 
Roger Williams (16-10, 6-2 CNE) will travel to Biddeford, Maine on Saturday, Nov. 9 for a 1:00 pm matchup with the Nor'easters of the University of New England, before gearing up for CNE Tournament play, with the opening round taking place on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
