BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team fell to the University of New England on Saturday at the Harold Alfond Forum in a Conference of New England (CNE) match, 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 28-16)
After dropping the first two sets, Roger Williams rallied in the third, winning 25-19. Despite a strong effort in the fourth, the Hawks were unable to complete the comeback, falling 26-28 in a hard-fought set featuring seven tie scores and three lead changes.
Brianna Picchietti (Batavia, Ill.) led the Hawks with 13 kills and contributed three blocks, tallying 14.5 points. Kaylee Jackson added eight kills and 10 digs, while setter Ava Mattiucci (North Kingstown, R.I.) orchestrated the offense with 29 assists and chipped in seven digs. Defensively, Marianna Hernandez (Na led with 25 digs.
For the University of New England, Ellijah Hanley had an impressive 16 kills with a .382 hitting percentage, adding three service aces to her performance. Kailyn Reilly also made a strong impact, recording eight kills and two blocks. Defensively, Kelsey Bradshaw notched 25 digs, contributing to the Nor'easters' 86 total digs compared to the Hawks' 69.
Roger Williams (16-11, 6-3 CNE) will host No. 6 seeded UNE in a CNE Tournament First Round match on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 7:00 pm. The winner will advance to the CNE Semifinals on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 7:00 pm at Wentworth.
