BRISTOL, R.I. – The No. 2 Roger Williams University Field Hockey team will play in their second consecutive Conference of New England (CNE) Championship match on Saturday, when they host No. 4 University of New England at 1:00 pm on Bayside Field.
This is the Hawks' second conference title game appearance in program, history falling to Endicott in the championship match last season. This is the Nor'easters' 19
th appearance in a conference title game in program history and the squad's first since 2023. UNE has six conference titles in their history, while RWU will look for it's first field hockey title.
Danielle Collins is in her 11
th season at the helm of the Nor'easters, leading UNE to an 152-88 (.633) record during her time as head coach. For RWU,
Jill Reeve is in her third season leading the Hawks, posting a 39-20 (.661) over three seasons.
UNE posted a 9-11 record, with a 2-3 record in conference play, falling to Endicott, Roger Williams, and Western New England during the regular season, while coming out on top against Nichols and Gordon in CNE action this season. RWU has gone 15-6, with a 4-1 record within the CNE, falling to Endicott during the regular season.
The Nor'easters came out with a 3-2 victory over Endicott on Wednesday, evening avenging their loss in the regular season, with Michaela Jacobs scoring twice in the win, while Dawn DeWeese-Moss made 11 saves.
For the Hawks,
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) led the way with a pair of goals, as the Hawks took down the No. 3 seeded Golden Bears to advance to the championship game, defeating WNE 2-0.
The two goalkeepers are projected to be DeWeese-Moss and
Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, Md.). DeWeese-Moss, has posted a 9-11 record on the year, with 2.35 goals against, with a save percentage of .721 with three shutouts. Haudenshield has backstopped the Hawks this season, appearing in 18 games, receiving the start in each of the 18. Haudenshield has recorded a 13-5 record with a goals against average of 1.33, while posting five shutouts.
On the offensive end the two squads rank first and fourth in scoring average in the conference, with Roger Williams averaging a league high four goals a match. The Nor'easters on average score 1.632 goals per match. On the defensive end the Hawks rank third in the conference, allowing 1.72 goals per match to the Nor'easters 2.47 opponents scoring average.
Individually the Nor'easters are led by the offensive group of Laney LeBlanc, Madi Robito, Makena Valentine, and Lily Clough who have scored, 16, 15, 13, and 12 points on the season respectively. McKenzie Berry, Gianna Korisianos, and Shelly Tremblay each have scored nine goals on the season. Micaela Jacobs has made a team high 15 defensive saves on the season.
The Hawks' offense is led by King who has tallied a team high 54 points on the year, tying her previous school record for points in a single season from the 2023 campaign.
Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) and
Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) follow with 35 and 22 points respectively. Rounding out the top scorers for the Hawks are
Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) (19 pts.) and
Lauren Costanzo (North Andover, Mass.) and
Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) (14 pts.). On the defensive end,
Abigail Stevens (Brewster, Mass.) has registered five defensive saves for the Nor'easters with
Ella Waryas (Foxboro, Mass.) and
Ally Orlofski (Lynnfield, Mass.) each adding one.
The winner of the matchup will advance to the NCAA Tournament, securing the conference's automatic qualifying bid.
