BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team fell to Springfield on Friday evening in the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium on Senior Night, 34-17.
Beginning at the match at 157 pounds, Lucien Perla picked up the opening point of the match for Springfield as he defeated
Gordon Murray by major decision, 13-3. The Hawks rebounded at 165 with
Matt Lucas pinning Matthew Duquette, in the third period, giving RWU a 6-4 lead. Dequire then responded with a pin, to put the Pride back in the lead, 10-6, with a pin in 55 seconds against
Jayden Curley at 174 pounds.
In the 184 pound match, Myles Leonard earned a pin early in the second period, taking six point for Springfield, defeating
Michael Forte. Spencer Fetrow picked up six points for the Hawks, winning via medical forfeit in the 197-pound match.
At the halftime break of the match, Roger Williams celebrated six seniors with a senior day ceremony, recognizing Fetrow, Forte, Lucas,
Anthony Ostrander,
Christopher Tringali, and
Paul Trombi.
Returning to action, Benjamin Katz picked up an 11-5 win by decision over
Jayden Toppan. Jack Callahan and Jaden Colwell added six points apiece, taking a 31-12 match lead for the Pride, with pins of
Zachary Henault and
Maceo Eramo in the opening period.
Ryan Kozdra took the 141-pound match, with
Shaun McLaughlin falling in a tightly contested bout, 7-4. At 149 pounds,
Nick Fatone earned the win by tech fall in 5:03 to round out the match.
Roger Williams (5-3, 1-2 NEWA) will host the Scott Viera Open on Saturday, Jan. 14 beginning at 9:00 am in the Campus Rec Center Field House to round out the semester. The Hawks next dual meet will take place on Saturday, Jan. 4 when they host King's and New England College for a pair of duals.
