KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Roger Williams University men's tennis team defeated Western Connecticut State, 7-2, on Tuesday after falling behind 2-1 in doubles play.
The Hawks opened the match with
Jackson Slattery (Watertown, Conn.) and
Colin Belmore (Lakeville, Mass.) earning an 8-3 win in their match at No. 3 doubles, but the Wolves responded with a win at No. 2 doubles, edging out
James Birbara (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Ben Palmer (Wakefield, Mass.), 8-7. The Wolves top pairing of Kevin Tenesca and Aidan Burke out dueled
Matt Glassman (West Hartford, Conn.) and
Sam Gibson (East Hampton, Conn.), 8-5, as they took the lead heading into singles action.
Roger Williams responded with a No. 1 singles win by
Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) who took the victory, 6-0, 6-0.
Camden Poitras then earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles before taking a fourth point at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-2 with
Will Hurlbut (Marion, Mass.) taking the match.
Konnor Collins (Broken Arrow, Okla) clinched the win for the Hawks with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. The Hawks finished the match with wins at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2, and No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-4, by
Cooper Brown (Plano, Texas) and
Johnny Baldyga (Simsbury, Conn.) respectively.
Roger Williams (5-2, 0-0 CCC) will round out their Spring Break trip against Macalester on Wednesday, Mar. 13 at 10:00 am at the Lake Beerman Complex.
