LAKEFIELD, Fla. – Roger Williams University fell to Macalester on Wednesday in a non-conference collegiate tennis match at the Beerman Tennis Complex, 7-2.
In doubles play, the Scots picked up a pair of wins with the No. 2 doubles pairing of Jordan Doi and Lucas Wood edging out
Camden Poitras and
Konnor Collins (Broken Arrow, Okla.), 8-6. The Hawks then earned a point at the No. 1 doubles sport, with
Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) and
Will Hurlbut (Marion, Mass.) combining for the 8-6 win.
Trailing 2-1 at the start of singles action, Doi picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win in singles play, followed by Lucas Wood who took a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot. Lewis Jolly sealed the win for the Scots at No. 5 singles defeating Hurlbut 6-2, 7-6.
Poitras then picked up a win in singles play for the Hawks at the No. 3 spot, with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 victory, before the Scots took the final two matches.
Roger Williams (5-3, 0-0 CCC) will return to action on Thursday, Mar. 21 at Springfield beginning at 3:30 pm. The Hawks will then play Bridgewater State on Wednesday, Mar. 27 before traveling to open Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play at Endicott on Friday, Mar. 29.
