WATERVILLE, Maine – Roger Williams faced off against #6 Colby on Sunday afternoon at Bill Alford Field, falling to the Mules 15-9 in their sixth straight road contest to start the season.
The Hawks took 18 shots in the contest, with Colby firing 31 shots on the season, with the Hawks seeing
Zoey Cormican (Rochester, N.H.) making nine saves in the matchup. The Hawks went 17-19 on clear attempts, with Colby going 15-17. The Mules also won the ground ball battle, 15-11, holding a slight, 14-12, edge in draw controls.
Kimmy Creegan (Ramsey, N.J.) had four goals in the game, with
Karli Chapin (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) adding a pair.
Mia Pantano (Reading, Mass.) also had two points with a goal and an assist.
The Hawks opened the contest with a lead, when
Allie Shamberger (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored 2:26 into the contest. The Mules responded with Julia Maimonis scoring 49 seconds later, but Pantano scored her goal unassisted with 8:16 remaining to take a 2-1 lead.
The Mules then scored five straight goals to take a 6-02 lead with 11:45 remaining in the opening half. Creegan scored her first goal with a player up opportunity, before Julia Jardina struck for Colby. Creegan would score one more time off a helper by
Ella Waryas (Foxborough, Mass.), before the Mules scored the final goal of the half, taking an 8-4 lead into the break.
The Hawks scored again, with Creegan scoring the third of her four straight goals for Roger Williams. Ainsley Dion then scored her second goal of the contest, putting the Mules up 9-5, before Creegan stuck again with 8:24 remaining in the third quarter. Colby closed out the third quarter, with goals by Ally Franz and Tori Congdon.
The Hawks struck three times in the final frame, but Colby was able to strike four, as they closed out the contest.
Roger Williams (1-5, 0-0 CCC) will play their first home contest of the season on Wednesday, Mar. 20 when they host Bowdoin on Bayside Field. The Hawks will then begin Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Wednesday, Mar. 27 against Curry.
