BIDDEFORD, Maine — In a commanding performance at Blue Bolt Field, the Roger Williams University women's lacrosse team overpowered the University of New England with a resounding 20-3 victory.
From the opening whistle, Roger Williams asserted their dominance, controlling possession and dictating the tempo of the game. The first quarter saw Roger Williams surge to an early lead, with seven unanswered goals.
The Hawks opened the game with a 9-0 advantage before the Nor'easters scored their first with 7:22 remaining in the opening half. The Hawks then went on to score six straight goals to take a commanding 15-1 advantage with 6:09 remaining in the third quarter.
After the Nor'easters scored in the third quarter, Roger Williams closed out the game with a 5-1 stretch over the final 18:18 of play.
Julia Kelley led the charge for Roger Williams, with six goals and contributing seven assists.
Roger Williams' offensive onslaught continued throughout the game, with Karli Chapin, Emma Terino, Mia Pantano, and Allie Shamberger each adding multiple goals to the scoreboard. The Hawks were able to take control against the University of New England's defense, maintaining control from start to finish.
Sydney Balotin, Meagan Donovan, and Barrie Guertin each contributed a goal for UNE.
Defensively, Roger Williams executed with precision, stifling the University of New England's offensive efforts and limiting their scoring opportunities. Goalkeeper Zoey Cormican had eight saves on the day, holding UNE to three goals.
Roger Williams (3-6, 2-0 CCC) will host Wentworth on Tuesday, Apr. 2 at 7:00 pm. The Hawks will then face off against Babson on Thursday, Apr. 4 at 4:00 pm before rounding out the week on Saturday, Apr. 6 at 11:00 am against Gordon for Senior Day.
